“Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6) We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. WE ARE NO LONGER SLAVES TO SIN.”

Paul goes on to say in verse 12,
“Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.”

“Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for YOU WERE dead, BUT NOW you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.”
Romans 6:13 NLT
Paul said, “for YOU WERE dead, BUT NOW you have new life.” Ladies and Gentlemen, here lies the greatest battle of all time,
YOU WERE VS. BUT NOW
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR, “YOU WERE” COLLIDES WITH YOUR, “BUT NOW?”
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN WHO YOU WERE, COLLIDES WITH WHO YOU ARE NOW?
What do you do, when who you were shows up on the doorsteps and wants to stare who you are now in the eyes? I’m going to tell you what to do.
📝 The next time, “Who You Were” knocks on the door of your mind, SEND THE HOLY SPIRIT TO ANSWER IT!

📝 The Holy Spirit will give you the power to keep WHO YOU WERE, away from WHO YOU ARE NOW.
I remember years back reading Romans 6:12-13. Let’s read it again…
“Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.”

I remember thinking to myself, I want what I just read, God you know I do, but sometimes, if I’m being honest I struggle with that. I struggle with that because, I don’t know if I can do that. His reply, “I never asked YOU to do it in the first place.”
📝 You can’t, but THE HOLY SPIRIT living in you can!
“…NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT,’ Says the Lord of hosts.”

📝 Free yourself from unrealistic EXPECTATIONS that God never placed on you, and place those EXPECTATIONS on the Holy Spirit.
“For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead BY THE GLORIOUS POWER OF THE FATHER, NOW WE ALSO MAY LIVE NEW LIVES.”

WE LIVE NEW LIVES, BY THE SAME GLORIOUS POWER OF THE FATHER THAT RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD. Romans 8:11 spells it out plainly…
“THE SPIRIT OF GOD, who raised Jesus from the dead, LIVES IN YOU.”

What do you mean you’re worthless? You have the same spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, LIVING IN YOU. Yet you think you’re worthless…I BEG TO DIFFER!

What power is Jesus talking about?
📝 His first name is HOLY. His last name is GHOST. He will help you live a holy, victorious, successful life. Will you see him? No! Why because He’s a ghost.

“And I will pray the Father, and HE WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER HELPER, that He may abide with you forever—”

📝 The Holy Spirit is here to help you. Whatever God COMMANDS the Holy Spirit will SUPPLY.
“THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for HE DWELLS WITH YOU AND WILL BE IN YOU.”
John 14:17 NKJV
When you buy into the lie of what you can’t do, and who you aren’t, and why it’s not going to work for you but it will for everyone else, The Spirit of truth rises inside of you and says, “That’s a lie….I Beg To Differ!”

How does that scripture make you feel? Does it intimidate you? Does it make you feel meh?
📝 Stop looking at the scriptures through the lens of SELF, and start looking through the lens of THE HOLY SPIRIT.”
“I have been crucified with Christ; IT IS NO LONGER I WHO LIVE, BUT CHRIST LIVES IN ME; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

📝 Remove SELF from the equation, and add the HOLY SPIRIT to the equation.
“DON’T YOU REALIZE THAT YOU BECOME THE SLAVE OF WHATEVER YOU OBEY? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.”
Romans 6:16 NLT
“Thank God! ONCE YOU WERE SLAVES OF SIN, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you.”
Romans 6:17 NLT
You were once a slave to sin, but sin tells you, no, don’t allow the Holy Spirit to rob us of our fun. Don’t allow the Holy Spirit to rob us of our “freedom.” All the while, not knowing that the fun you were having wasn’t fun at all, but instead a spiritual form of slavery, that you never knew you were in, until you tried to break free.
📝 The Holy Spirit didn’t come to place you in BONDAGE. The Holy Spirit came to set you FREE.
Sin calls it placing you in bondage, on lockdown, “robbing you of your fun,” but the word of God calls it freedom, by giving you power over what once controlled you.
📝 The world’s freedom leads to ADDICTION. God’s freedom leads to DELIVERANCE.
📝 The worst type of addiction is the one YOU DON’T KNOW YOU’RE IN.
📝 The Holy Spirit loves you too much to allow you to remain COMFORTABLE in sin.
The flip side of Romans 6:12 is our answer to today…

Do not let sin control the way you live; BUT DO allow the Holy Spirit. Do not give in to sinful desires, BUT DO give in to the Holy Spirit.
📝 To be baptized by the Holy Spirit, is to be totally immersed, OCCUPIED with Him from the inside out.
📝 • Give in to HIS VOICE.
“MY SHEEP LISTEN TO MY VOICE; I know them, AND THEY FOLLOW ME.”

DO YOU LISTEN AND FOLLOW? OR DO YOU LISTEN AND DO YOUR OWN THING?

📝 When you give in to the Holy Spirit, He’ll help you RESPOND instead of REACT.

“DO NOT LET SIN CONTROL THE WAY YOU LIVE; DO NOT GIVE IN TO SINFUL DESIRES.”

Don’t fall for the lie to live your own truth. Don’t fall for the lie to do whatever makes you feel good, and to get rid of all of God’s boundaries, the Word of God for your life. Don’t fall for the lie of YOLO, you only live once, go ahead and chase good feelings because soon you’ll be gone. LIVE YOUR OWN TRUTH? That’s not truth at all.
God I want that! I want what he’s preaching. I want to see today’s Word come alive in my life, God you know I do, but I don’t know if I can do that. You can’t, but THE HOLY SPIRIT living in you can!

HOW’S YOUR POSTURE?
Is it a posture of surrender? Is it a posture of desperation? Is it a posture of He must increase, but I must decrease? Is it a posture of yet not I but the Holy Spirit in me.
